Members of the provincial organised crime unit have secured a court order to exhume the body of a 25-year-old man who was allegedly mutilated while he was still alive in a muti-related murder in February.
Clearance Brown of Oakley Trust, near Bushbuckridge, was murdered on February 23 after two men ambushed him as he returned from a bar lounge that night.
The killers allegedly sliced off Brown's testicles, drained his blood and removed his brains as well as certain bones.
They allegedly carried this out in a blue Toyota Venture belonging to 33-year-old Sydney Toto Mokoena, who was arrested last week with his businessman father Floyd Mokoena, 58, and a friend, Mjojo Justice Ndubane, 28.
The killers allegedly threw Brown's body on the street and ran him over several times with the vehicle to make it look as if he had been killed in a hit-and-run road accident.
At the time the postmortem results found he was killed after a vehicle ran over him, but police investigations revealed otherwise.
"We have established that the victim's testicles and other body parts were removed while he was still alive," Mpumalanga police organised crime unit spokesman Captain Leonard Hlathi said yesterday.
"The suspects have confirmed our findings, so we have applied for permission to exhume the body tomorrow morning for further re-examination."
Police claim that they have established that Mokoena Snr asked his son Toto to help him obtain the body parts of a relative, including blood and the brain, to use in strengthening his four businesses.
He owns the Lebogang bar lounge and a restaurant in Tekamahala and a bottle-store and restaurant in Oakley.
Mokoena allegedly claimed a sangoma had told him that if he wanted the parts to work they had be cut from the body while the victim was still alive.
