KwaZulu-Natal local government and traditional affairs MEC Mike Mabuyakhulu appealed to business and civil society to help the government make the 2010 World Cup a resounding success.

Mabuyakhulu was speaking in Pietermaritzburg yesterday at the demolition of the Harry Gwala stadium, which will be replaced by a state-of-the-art stadium to be used as a training venue.

He said because the event would bring a host of business opportunities for tourism, people must prepare themselves to grab all available opportunities.

"It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity which will assist our province to bridge the gap between rural and urban areas. As a host province, we want to ensure that spoils that will accrue benefit urban and rural areas and also non-hosting municipalities and communities," said Mabuyakhulu.
