As an everyday car the Ford Ikon is ideal

Charl Wilken

The previous Ford Ikon, like the one we feature as our used car test model, is legendary when it comes to fuel consumption.

In harsh economic times like the present it makes sense to buy a good used vehicle with low kilometres on the odometer.

A car that consumes an average 7,7litre-100 km could put a smile back on many sad faces. As a small family sedan this Ford can stand its ground.

The Ikon has always been the struggling or most unpopular blue oval product of them all. But this could be the right time to reconsider, given the above reasons.

The initial purchase price of our used Ikon and its low maintenance costs make it an example of a very good buy.

This is a solid car, coupled with a good heritage. It has good build quality and impressive standard features.

Apart from the Ikon being so well priced, it has only done a mere 47000km.

The cabin of the car offers lots of space and legroom for the driver and passengers. Boot capacity is also one of the largest in this segment.

The four-cylinder 1,6-litre engine delivers 74kW and 146Nm and is mated to a smooth five-speed manual gearbox that delivers to the front wheels.

There is enough power for overtaking and to cruise at freeway speeds. As an everyday car to go to work with or get the kids from school, the Ikon will be ideal.
