'School ignored safety moves'

The Democratic Alliance councillor for public safety in Mogale City, Kobus de Beer, says the incident at the school could have been prevented.

She said the school did not take pupils' safety on its property seriously.

"Two weeks ago we started a programme to address the safety of pupils in schools," De Beer said. "All the schools in Mogale City filled in a questionnaire - but this one refused.

"We said we would raise the issue with the department. It showed that the school was not interested in school safety - and look what happened at the school." - Tebogo Monama
