As part of the strategy to develop women's soccer in this country, girls' football in schools will be in the spotlight for the first time.

The South African Football Association (Safa) is planning programmes to accelerate the development of women's football as part of the association's repositioning strategy.

The Safa women's committee, chaired by Anastasia Tsichlas, has met with Safa president Molefi Oliphant to discuss the implementation strategy.

"There is a general mood of determination to reposition football development in the country, and we are encouraged that women's football development is given as much attention, as we strive to take South African football to another level," says Tsichlas.

Tsichlas said a workshop on women's football will be held on August 22 to 24. In addition to girls' football in schools, the committee it will look at the formation of women's clubs by PSL teams, competition formats and budgets, establishment of a national league, as well as setting up an office with dedicated staff dealing with women's football.
