Former high-ranking IFP member Lynette Zwane has ditched the party she joined as a youngster and "headed home" for the ANC.
Zwane, a former IFP Women's Brigade chairman, told thousands of ANC supporters in Umlazi that she has decided to come back home to "make a humble contribution to the party that is making progress".
She was introduced on Saturday when the ANC launched its election campaign.
"Nothing wrong happened between me and the IFP but I just felt I should return home," Zwane said. "I decided to join the ANC, to end my political struggle where the real struggle for the people began."
IFP Women's Brigade chairman Thembi Nzuza said the party, and the brigade in particular, will lose nothing by Zwane joining the ruling party.
Zwane had done nothing for them, she said .
