Waterkloof four must rot in jail

The notorious "Waterkloof four" are now behind bars for the murder they committed in 2001.

Frikkie du Preez, Gert van Schalkwyk, Reinach Tiedt and Christoff Becker have joined thousands of other prisoners at the Pretoria Central Prison to serve their sentence.

Throughout this period of seven years we never heard a word from Helen Zille, Tony Leon and others condemning the heinous crime committed by the four, despite their being found guilty in 2005.

The racially motivated attack by the four left a homeless man dead, yet they were allowed to exercise all their rights to "prove their innocence".

No one shouted from the rooftops that they were trying to evade imprisonment. They used every legal recourse at their disposal.

The legal system treated them fairly and justly . They continued to make headlines, smiling for the cameras and showing no sign of remorse.

I wonder if the situation would have been the same had it been four black men who committed the murder?

Let the four rot in jail because their crime has been proved beyond a reasonable doubt by various courts.

We hope everyone will be given a fair chance to state their case as the law requires without being condemned in the court of public opinion.
