The community of Zone 1 Diepkloof, Soweto, has lost a stalwart and mother with the death of the admirable and beloved Emmah Nkele Kalebe-Ntsala and her daughter Irene Kalebe last week.

Kalebe-Ntsala, born Monamodi in 1940, was well known for her resourcefulness and as a hard-working businesswoman.

She started a number of businesses, including one of the first ice distributions in the township.

Ausi Kuki, as she was fondly known, leaves behind a husband, five children, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Irene died after a long illness on Saturday, two days after her mother's death.

They will both be buried tomorrow at the Avalon Cemetery. The service begins at 8am at home and the cortege leaves at 10am.
