The Mopani district municipality in Limpopo has won acclaim for its exhibition at the Letaba Show held in Tzaneen recently.

It was voted the best public sector exhibitor at the annual show, which brings together exhibitors ranging from farmers, small businesses and public sector divisions.

The spokesman for the municipality Tumelo Malaka said they received a trophy and a certificate of excellence after defeating one of the top exhibitors, the University of Limpopo, in the public sector category.

Malaka said their stall had displayed the best the area had to offer in tourism in the form of publications, a route map, bird-watching details and other top tourism destinations on the African Ivory route.

"Our chances of winning were boosted by the fact that we are a gateway to Africa through the Griyondo border post and Limpopo's Transfrontier Park that passes through the mining town of Phalaborwa."

Malaka said the publications on display promoted the district's aim to be the tourism destination of choice and also trumpeted its state-of-the-art tourism centre.

The district is made up of five municipalities - Greater Tzaneen, Giyani, Maruleng, Letaba and Ba-Phalaborwa.

All the municipalities contributed to the achievement of the district through their unique tourism attraction centres, he said.
