Racists spurn reconciliation

One daily newspaper has reported that Barend Strydom told the Pretorial high court that he still believes black people are not human and that he wishes to take up arms and drive blacks out of the country.

One daily newspaper has reported that Barend Strydom told the Pretorial high court that he still believes black people are not human and that he wishes to take up arms and drive blacks out of the country.

This is the man who, in 1989, went on a shooting spree in Pretoria, killing eight black people.

He was jailed for life but given amnesty after the 1994 elections during our euphoria over reconciliation.

The conditions under which he was given amnesty continue to confuse most of us as his killing spree was nothing political, but part of the holistic sickness of the fear of the "swart gevaar".

Today the same person is giving evidence in support of the Boeremag, a group of white lunatics who are accused of planning to overthrow our government.

What is even more incredible is just how little attention the media are giving to these inflammatory comments compared with what Malema received.

Should we really destroy our arms and our resolve for the total emancipation of our country over issues that took us to the bush in the first place?

For how long should we hope and pray that whites will one day embrace our hand of friendship and reconciliation?
