It is a pity that she makes it a race issue. Let me respond as a white person who will certainly not support actions that miss the whole point.
She must remember that the majority of whites do not support Cosatu and its socialistic policies. There are in fact many black people who do not support Cosatu. These people understand the logic of an open society and the benefit of a free market economy.
There are no instant solutions to poverty. Populist statements by politicians seldom, if ever, deliver any tangible results. By not embracing democracy and the free market, Zimbabwe turned its citizens into starving billionaires - definitely not an ideal to strive for.
The majority of whites, contrary to what Mfolo believes, care a great deal about what is going on in South Africa. We want to avoid the Zimbabwe catastrophe and strongly oppose strikes that scare away foreign investors.
Senseless strikes do more harm than good. What we need is investment to make our economy bigger and stronger so as to give more and more people the opportunity to be economically active.
As a born South African, I have no intention to jump ship. I will advocate any belief and principle to make South Africa a successful country with a bright future for all its people, irrespective of race.
