The world needs to celebrate women's day for two reasons.
The first is to treasure and appreciate the hardship that women sometimes go through.
Women are the core of their family units and even of their communities and workplace.
We have worldwide examples of women who, in difficult situations, stand up, uplift themselves and encourage others to do the same.
Oprah Winfrey could serve as a modern example but there are many others who would do as well.
The second reason for celebrating Women's Day is to set aside a special day for reflection.
It is a time for all women to ask if they do what is expected of women. We see so many neglected and abandoned children and wonder where the women of those families are.
We hear how women get involved in murdering family members.
We see daily how women get involved in drinking and using drugs.
Too often we women neglect ourselves and look for excuses to do so.
It is time for women to take stock of their roles, whatever they choose to do.
Women should ask whether they do what they are supposed to do: support and uplift ourselves and then our families and communities, work hard in the workplace and love those we care for.
