The Department of Home Affairs will expedite the repatriation of 66 immigrants detained at the Lindela centre near Krugersdorp.
"The 66 persons have voluntarily indicated that they no longer intend to pursue their claims for asylum and have asked to be returned to their home countries," Home Affairs spokesman Siobhan McCarthy told Sowetan.
The group was among 204 male foreign nationals returned to Lindela after charges against them were withdrawn on Wednesday.
The immigrants were arrested for obstructing the flow of traffic on the R28 highway on the West Rand by camping there. The men were detained at Lindela to finalise the determination of their legal status, McCarthy said. - Namhla Tshisela
