Moroka Swallows midfield ace, Lefa Tsutsulupa believes that the money that was pumped into the newly introduced MTN 8 competition will be the major motivating factor for the teams.
Tsutsulupa, who was outstanding in the South African Senior Development Team that won the Cosafa Cup, said they were looking at the bigger slice of the cake - the R8 million winner-takes-all prize.
"Every team in this competition is looking at the first prize and we're also determined to be the first team to have our names engraved on that trophy."
The Birds host a rejuvenated Ajax Cape Town in the quarterfinals of this competition known as Wafa-Wafa at the Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg tomorrow afternoon.
"Although it is a high mountain to climb, our guys have vowed that they will give a 120 percent effort to achieve that feat," Tsutsulupa said.
"The spirit is high among the players and a team that takes its chances will advance to the next round, and at the end of the day, it will be Moroka Swallows."
But the acquisition of four Brazilians by Swallows in Egor Alves, Vinicius da Silva, Davi Rancan and Elton Morelato has been questioned by the side's supporters.
Other players who will be in the Birds ensemble are Goodman Mazibuko, Mark Haskins, Sandile Ndlovu and Alton Meiring.
Ajax assistant coach Wilfred Mugeyi said they were optimistic of going through because they beat Swallows in the Mangaung Cup tournament recently.
"We were assessing our side's combinations and we know exactly who to play in this lucrative competition. We've seen Swallows and we know their strengths and weaknesses," Mugeyi said.
He said besides the tried and tested Sifiso Vilakazi, Mabhuti Khenyeza and Dipsy Selolwane, they have also promoted four youngsters from their development programme.
They are Damian Warley, Andile Mbanyane, Cole Alexander and Chad Robertson
