All Justice Mnisi wanted was to get meat from his friends' fridge for his supper but instead he ended up with a broken arm and bruised body.
On Sunday night Mnisi, 25, who works on a farm outside Krugersdorp on the West Rand, was assaulted by the owner of a farm next to the one he works and lives on.
"After watching the Telkom Charity Cup soccer game I went to the farm with two friends who work there," Mnisi says. "I keep my food in their fridge because I don't have one. The farms are within walking distance of each other.
"While I was there the owner of the plot came into my friends' room and assaulted me for no reason. My friends just stood there and could not help me because they were afraid of losing their jobs.
"When he stopped assaulting me he ordered me to run for my life. While running in the dark, I realised that he was coming after me in his bakkie.
"I thought he wanted to kill me so I hid in the trees until he gave up the search.
"I was lucky that he did not see me otherwise I would be dead."
Mnisi luckily escaped with a broken arm, a bump on the head and bruises to the body.
His boss, Johan Potgieter, said: "This is like Mississippi in the 60s when the Ku Klux Klan attacked people, told them to run and then hunted them down with dogs and murdered them.
"If there are white people who continue to behave like this we have no chance of real reconciliation in this country.
"Justice is a good worker and he has been working for me for two years. It is unfair that he was attacked without any provocation."
Potgieter helped Mnisi open a case of common assault against the farmer at Krugersdorp police station.
West Rand police spokesman Captain Jacob Raboroko said: "A case has been opened and we are investigating. At present we are waiting for the complainant to give us medical reports on his injuries."
Mnisi said: "Now that I have opened a case against him I am scared that he will come and finish me off.
"I have been working on this farm for two years and all the neighbouring farmers are nice. He is the only one who treats people badly."
