3 airport robbers sentenced

Three of the 10 accused standing trial in the OR Tambo International Airport R100 million cash heist case have been sentenced after striking a deal with the court.

Magdalena Moonsammy, 26, of Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, entered into an agreement with the state in the Johannesburg high court and pleaded guilty to charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances.

Judge Naren Panday yesterday sentenced Moonsammy to three years of correctional supervision and a further five years in jail, suspended for five years.

On Friday Sean Soobramoney, 33, and Ishmail Nazir, 40, also pleaded guilty to charges of robbery.

They were each sentenced to 20 years in jail, also suspended for five years.

As part of the plea agreement Moonsammy, Soobramoney and Nazir will turn state witnesses against the other nine.

The nine are Ananias Nepfumembe, 39, Tijuanda Uakotela, 37, Christopher Billings, 39, Fox Sithole, 31, Thokozani Ziqubu, 35, Vusi Ndlangala, 50, Uakere Maunda, 35, Msikize Magwaza, 35 and Vusi Khumalo, 33.

The case against the nine was postponed to September 1.
