An 81-year-old Mpumalanga granny is in hot water after children from a nearby school identified her as a drug dealer.

Her drug dealing came to light after a number of Mmasekaseka High School pupils became disorderly and forced the school's authorities to call the police.

The granny allegedly told the police that her pension grant was not enough to provide for her and her 15-year-old grandchild.

The school authorities called in the police after pupils, who were high on dagga, became rowdy and upset other pupils.

"The troublesome pupils were searched. We found dagga in their possession," said police spokesman Hasting Chaane.

He said the pupils were threatened with arrest if they refused to reveal the source of their dagga. To the police's surprise and shock, the pupils fingered the granny who lives near the school.

"We found dagga worth about R1000 in the granny's house," Chaane said.

She was arrested for being in possession of dagga and is on R1000 bail.

Chaane said she would appear in the Moretele magistrate's court tomorrow.
