Adami back at the helm

Stormin' Norman Adami, the colourful SABMiller executive who resigned last year, is back.

SABMiller announced yesterday that he will, on October 1, take over as managing director and chairman of SAB Ltd, the group's South African operation.

He will replace Tony van Kralingen, who becomes director of human resources and supply chain for the SABMiller group at the London head office, taking over from human resources director Johann Nel, who will be retiring.

Adami's appointment comes soon after an SABMiller trading update, which pointed to challenging times for the global brewer. Chief executive Graham Mackay noted a "challenging trading environment in South Africa" which "impacted financial performance there".

Mackay said he was delighted to welcome Adami back. "His experience in the USA and long-standing knowledge of the South African market ensure that he is well-placed to lead SAB Ltd in the face of challenging market circumstances."
