After a successful season in Pietermaritzburg, Shosholoza, the spectacular musical show, is coming to the State Theatre in Pretoria.

The innovative theatrical show will only run for a brief season from August 19 to 24.

The musical is about the lives of mineworkers at Highveld Gold Fields Mines in Johannesburg.

Directed by John Malusi Ledwaba, the show will introduce you to some serious acting, with dramatic conflict, character and story developments.

Ledwaba managed to cleverly write and direct all the elements of storytelling and theatre, including comedy with loads of humour enveloped in serious dramatic tension.

Ledwaba says: "The musical explores the plight of mine workers. It looks at the issue of HIV-Aids as well as the non-safety compliance of women miners."

"The show embraces the rich traditions of the country's indigenous languages and cultures, delivered with the vocal prowess of a cast of 32," he says.

Boasting a pulsating dance routine inspired by both the classic mine dance moves and other exciting footwork sequences, the show is a thriller.

Shosholoza looks at the highs and lows of the life of a newly recruited mine worker, Jabulani Makhathini, from a rural village in KwaZulu-Natal.

Ledwaba says: "He is so mesmerised by both the good times and the hardships of life in the mines that he ends up neglecting his responsibilities as a married man. He loses it when he falls in love with a woman mine worker."

Shosholoza is packed with quality entertainment that the whole family will enjoy.
