Mpumalanga police are investigating how an "overtaking truck" collided with a bakkie in an accident that killed 11 people and left two seriously injured.
The two vehicles were reportedly travelling in opposite directions when they collided along the Ermelo-Hendrina road late on Friday afternoon.
Police Superintendent Abie Khoabane said the truck collided head-on with the bakkie ferrying 12 people.
"Preliminary investigations have revealed that the truck was overtaking another vehicle when it collided with the oncoming bakkie," Khoabane said.
He said the force threw most of the people in the back of the bakkie into nearby bushes.
The truck caught fire which spread to the bushes, where the injured victims were allegedly burnt to death.
