The South African Students Congress (Sasco) has called on students to take up arms and fight against racism at institutions of higher learning.

This emerged at a media briefing addressed by Sasco president Mawethu Rune and general secretary Magasela Mzobe in Johannesburg yesterday.

The decision was among resolutions taken at the body's 15th national congress at the Walter Sisulu University in Mthatha from July 9 to 13.

"Our students' patience has been sorely tested and we call on students to take up arms and fight racism in all its manifestations," Rune said.

Sasco called on Education Minister Naledi Pandor to resign for failing to address racism at tertiary level.

It cited the recent racism incident at the University of Free State and at the University of Johannesburg. - Eric Naki
