A self-proclaimed chief from Limpopo, who was nabbed for allegedly assisting illegal foreigners in obtaining South African identity documents, yesterday told the Lebowakgomo magistrate's court he was very busy with community work and wanted the court to speed up the proceedings.

Lesiba Alpheus Kekana, chief of Moshate wa-ga Kekana in Moletlane near Zebediela, is charged with helping 120 illegal foreigners obtain IDs so they could qualify for government grants.

Kekana allegedly gave them letters stamped by the Zebediela Ndebele Tribal Authority.

The matter was postponed to August 11 and his bail of R1000 was extended.

Kekana allegedly charged R800 for each letter stamped with the tribal authority's insignia and R900 to release the IDs Home Affairs sent to him.
