Charges against eight members of the ANC arrested during an illegal march to the party's regional offices in Tzaneen last month has been withdrawn in the Tzaneen magistrate's court owing to a lack of evidence.

They were part of a group who claimed to be ANC members from Thabo Mohale, Ngwako Ramalepe, Pae Masipa and Moss Motshekga branches in the Greater Letaba municipality and Mokwape Malatji branch in the Bolobedu South area, which supported former provincial chairman and current premier Sello Moloto.

They were led by Jeffrey "Manjaro" Senyolo the sub-regional secretary of the party in the Greater Letaba municipality,

The eight are Senyolo, Ntebo Selamolela, Grace Myambo, Walter Selowa, Ellah Rangwato, Olivia Malatji, Salminah Ramalobela and Michael Moyaba.

They were arrested at a petrol station about 500 metres from the party offices.

They were arrested after several calls by police for them to disperse were unsuccessful.

The group, mostly from the Thabo Mbeki camp, told Sowetan that they decided to march to the party offices to voice their concerns after realising that senior party leaders were biased in favour of the Zuma camp during nomination of delegates to the recent 6th ANC provincial conference held in Thohoyandou recently.

The leader of the group, Senyolo, said they still did not understand why they were arrested.

"It was our right to go and raise our problems with an office that serves as our home, not to fight with anyone," Senyolo said.

But Senyolo said they had not yet decided on the steps they would take now that the charges against them had been withdrawn.

He said the case had been a nightmare for them and their families.

Meanwhile, it is alleged that Senyolo has been suspended and will soon appear before the party's disciplinary hearing committee.
