Business people and professionals are invited to take part in a fundraising Charity Golf Day to be held at the Soweto Country Club in Pimville in September.

The event, the first of its kind to be held at this venue, is aimed at raising more than R200000 for Othandweni Family Care Centre in Mofolo South, Soweto.

Tournament organiser Karen James said the centre currently housed 90 children who were abused, abandoned and neglected and they were responsible for their upkeep.

"We spend about R2,8 million a year, a third of which comes from the Department of Social Development," she said.

"We normally raise funds every year and it will be the first time we do so with golf in Soweto. We hope this event will be successful enough so that we'll be able to hold it annually.

"We're inviting everybody to come on board and assist us to raise as much funds as we possibly can. Apart from raising money, this event will offer many marketing strategies and it will be an opportunity for business people to interact with their clients.

Each four-ball will be sold at R3000, with R750 per player. There will also be competitions such as nearest to the pin, longest drive, and chipping to keep the event vibrant.
