ANC elections in Free State are likely to be a "walk over" to victory for the party's provincial chairman Ace Magashule and his fellow candidates as the Jacob Zuma tsunami gallops at high speed.

Unlike other ANC party elections, the Free State provincial conference, which started with registration and credentials verification in Parys yesterday, is not likely to be a vigorously contested affair.

The leadership top five to be elected are Magashule, who is tipped to retain his chair position, Thabo Manyoni, chairman of the Motheo region has been nominated for deputy chair, while Sibongile Besane has been earmarked for the position of secretary.

Though current provincial executive committee member Maniki Qabathe is mentioned for the position of deputy secretary, his nomination is said to be not strongly supported by some of the party regions. As the sole candidate for treasurer, Mxolisi Dukwana will retain the finance post.

Reports that current deputy chairman and provincial legislature speaker Pat Matosa might contest the crucial chairmanship were dismissed by provincial spokesman, Qondile Khedama, who said Matosa was not standing for the position. However, he might be lucky to be elected as an additional members.
