Correctional Services said that “matters are under control” at Johannesburg’s Sun City Prison on Wed.
A pedestrian died after he was knocked down by a bus on Sydney Road near Durban's King Edward Hospital yesterday morning.
It is believed that the man tried to cross the road when the bus hit him.
ER24 spokesman Derrick Banks said the man is believed to have suffered severe internal injuries and was declared dead on the scene.
In a separate incident, a motorist narrowly escaped death on the N2 freeway near Edwin Swales off-ramp in Durban after a truck went over his light vehicle.
It was catapulted from the other side of the highway and landed in the centre medium of the freeway.
Banks said emergency workers had their hands full dealing with several collisions on the freeway during the morning rush hour.
He said paramedics found the mangled car in the centre with metro police in attendance.
"The driver was treated for shock and had no idea how the accident happened.
"The truck did not even stop at the scene. The driver may not know what had happened."
In another accident at the four-way interval, in the same direction, there was a three-car pile-up.
"Three cars that had collided have been moved to the emergency lane," he said.
Meanwhile, in the same freeway on the north-bound near Nandi Drive, the driver of a bakkie was injured after his vehicle rolled over.
It is believed he tried to avoid another vehicle but lost control.
