Substitute Zodwa Nyembe's brace steered Fabulous Ladies to an emphatic 2-0 victory over Parma Ladies in the Philips Zodwa Khoza Memorial Cup in Soweto at the weekend.
Striker Nyembe, who came on for Madichaba Moeketsi in the 70th minute, found the net in the 77th and 87th minutes.
It was a promising start for the defending champions Fabulous who had two Banyana Banyana midfielders in Lerato Kgasago and Tina Selepe in their fold.
Both teams, who campaigned in the Safa Gauteng Women's League, showed character and displayed good football throughout.
Though they created a lot of scoring opportunities in the first half neither team could break the deadlock until the break.
Fabulous piled on the pressure in the second half. But magnificent goalkeeping by Parma keeper Bridgette Molale, who plays for Banyana Banyana, frustrated them.
Molale was ultimately beaten by substitute Nyembe who beat the offside trap in the 77th minute. She completed her brace three minutes before full-time.
Nyembe's splendid performance could not have gone unnoticed by Banyana Banyana coach Augustine Makalakalane, who was at the tournament.
In another match, Colchester from Eldorado Park thumped Pimville Fast XI 8-1.
