The premier of the North West, Edna Molewa, this week assured soccer lovers who will be flocking to her province for the Telkom Charity Cup that all was on track for this one-day soccer extravaganza.

This yearly event will be played at the Mmabatho Stadium in Mafikeng on August 2.

"We are expecting over 60 000 people to attend the three matches on the day and we also expect thousands of soccer lovers from all over the country and the neighbouring Botswana to descend on our city for all sorts of festivities on the day," Molewa said.

To accentuate the tension, the web page updating fans on the progress of voting for their teams, will be updated until 8pm tonight.

The four teams that make the top four spots will be unveiled at a press conference next Monday.

Mamelodi Sundowns, who have taken the lead in the voting, are determined to lead until the end.

Sundowns' media liaison officer Mahlatse Mphahlele said they had lagged behind in early voting because of uncertainty if they will take part.

"Most of our supporters were not certain whether we'll be taking part in this year's Charity Cup because last year the dates of our CAF Cup games clashed with the tournament's date so we could not play in that event," he said.

Gates are expected to be opened at 8am while the first semifinal will kick off at 10am and the second semifinal will get under way at noon.

Tickets will cost R20 for children and R40 for adults while the reserved seating will cost R60.

By 4pm yesterday Sundowns were leading with 45127 votes, followed by Kaizer Chiefs with 41761, AmaZulu in third place with 39131 followed by Orlando Pirates with 39118, Bloemfontein Celtic in fifth place with 37845 votes and Platinum Stars sixth with 25889 votes.
