It has been a week of miracles for Absolom Morifi and his family in Randburg, Johannesburg.
On Tuesday night, Morifi, 49, miraculously survived a horrific accident involving 25 cars on the N1 South. His VW Jetta was squashed under a truck whose brakes had failed. The truck skidded on the busy highway wrecking 25 cars.
Three people were seriously injured in the accident.
Morifi spent 30 minutes in the wrecked car while emergency personnel used jaws of life to pull him out. To everyone's surprise, Morifi emerged unscathed.
A few hours before the crash, Morifi had cancelled his life insurance to take its premiums of R1400 to Rhema Bible Church where he had been a staunch member for four years. "Last week God convinced me that I was not being faithful in tithes, so I had to do something about it," said Morifi.
Another miracle happened to Morifi's life at the weekend.
On Friday, he received a call from Uys Grundling of Sasolburg in Free State, saying that he had been touched by Morifi's story when he read it in the newspapers.
Grundling said he wanted to help, so they set an appointment to meet at Morifi's home on Saturday.
"When I met Grundling on Saturday, I did not expect him to give me a VW Jetta 3, saying God had touched him to do so," Morifi said.
Grundling and his wife drove in two vehicles from Sasolburg to Randburg to hand over the car to Morifi. "My wife Cynthia did not believe me when I told her about Grundling. But she was left speechless when the man arrived and handed me the car keys."
Morifi works as a quality control manager at the Financial Services Board offices in Pretoria.
