3D movie experience a hit

Gugu Sibiya

After proving a hit with audiences at The Zone in Rosebank and Gateway in Durban, Ster-Kinekor Theatres are extending the 3D digital cinema experience

Now movie lovers can experience the newly released family adventure blockbuster Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D in one of the three brand-new 3D digital cinemas, the Ster-Kinekor Classic in Sandton City, Brooklyn in Pretoria and Cavendish in Cape Town.

"This expansion of the 3D digital cinema experience in South Africa heralds an exciting evolution in the way audiences experience the magic of the silver screen," says Ster-Kinekor Theatres chief executive Fiaz Mahomed.

"The 3D experience is literally adding a whole new dimension to cinema-going. Movies in 3D allow audiences to immerse themselves in the movie."

Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D, the film selected to inaugurate the three new-generation 3D digital cinemas, is reportedly the first full-length live-action feature to be shot in digital 3D.

Based on the classic Jules Verne novel it stars Brendan Fraser as a science professor whose radical theories have tarnished his reputation.

While he and his nephew are in Iceland they make a scientific discovery that sends them miles beneath the surface of the earth. There they witness strange new worlds and encounter strange creatures.
