Police are searching for the unknown killer or killers of a 67-year-old domestic worker in Modimolle.

Her 55-year-old husband was also attacked and left in a semi-conscious state.

The injured man was found lying next to her dead body in the bedroom by the couple's son yesterday. The woman and man lived in the back room of her employer's house.

Limpopo police spokesman in Modimolle, Superintendent Malesela Ledwaba, said the cause of the woman's death was still unknown.

Police suspect she had been assaulted because her body had several bruises and she was also bleeding through her nose.

Ledwaba said: "It is still difficult to establish what might have happened to the man because his body had no visible injuries."

The man has been admitted to a local hospital.

Ledwaba said the deceased woman and the injured man were discovered by their son when he visited their home.

The son became suspicious after there was no answer to his knocking on the door.

He then informed the owner of the house that he suspected something was wrong and went back to the room and forcibly opened the door.

Ledwaba said a postmortem was being conducted to establish the cause of the woman's death.

"We are quite confident that, with the help of the community, police will be able to make an arrest soon," he said.

He appealed to the community in the Modimolle area to be wary of any suspicious looking people in their neighborhood, especially at night.
