Bidvest Wits will spend a week in Mafikeng next month for a pre-season training camp in preparation for the 2008-09 Absa Premiership season that kicks off at the end of August.
This was confirmed by coach Roger de Sa after the club's taxing one-hour training session at a gymnasium in Johannesburg yesterday.
Said De Sa: "We will spend time with the boys outside Gauteng with the mission of formulating new strategies and building team spirit.
"We will also be dealing with the physical and mental conditioning of the boys."
De Sa explained that he and his deputy Eric Tinkler recommended Mafikeng because of its good training facilities.
They will be training at the local International School, which was used as a training camp by Bafana Bafana in preparation for Cosafa games in 2002.
It is not the first time The Students hold their camp outside Gauteng. Last year they spent two weeks at Hammanskraal in North West.
De Sa believes they have acquired nine quality players - five locals, three Brazilians and one from Zimbabwe.
"We are satisfied with the number of players we have signed and are looking forward to the new season,'' he said.
The ambitious Wits have signed former Thanda Royal Zulu player Brian Kgafane, Winners Park's Phikolethu Spelman, Clifford Mulenga from National First Division outfit Tukkies and Vasco Da Gama goalie Darren Keet.
They have also signed Caps United keeper Energy Murambadoro, who is also the Zimbabwe national team's goalkeeper, Patrick Phungwayo from Africa Sporting Academy, and the three Brazilians, David Junior, Fabricio da Silva and Andrey de Almeida.
The Brazilians are expected to join the rest of the team at the end of the month.
All these players have signed three- year contracts with the exception of Keet, who signed a two-year deal.
