Soccer lovers in Limpopo will be the first to watch Mamelodi Sundowns' recruits, including the highly paid S'busiso "Rhee" Zuma, in action for the club in the third edition of the Limpopo Soccer Challenge.
This was confirmed by Sundowns' spokesman Mahlatse "Mokgomana" Mphahlele yesterday during the draw in Polo- kwane. The tournament will be played at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
"We will come to Polokwane with a professional attitude, to compete and win the trophy. We will use this tourney to plough back to the Limpopo community," he said.
In the opening match Black Leopards lock horns with Winners Park at 9am, while Downs will play Dynamos at 11.30am and the final will be at 3pm.
Winners' general manager Trevor Lekalakala said his boys are ready for the tournament.
"Our wish is to play against a stronger team, not the depleted Leopards, as our players have trained hard for this tourney. We cannot afford to let the trophy go out of the province. Come Sunday we are the champions," Lekalakala said.
His counterpart at defending champions Leopards, Tshifhiwa Thidiela, said they will use the tournament to try settle on winning combinations for next season.
"We are in good shape to defend the championship. Our wish is to play Dynamos in the final to guarantee the people of Limpopo that the trophy does not leave the provincial boarders," Thidiela said.
Dynamos' spokesman Joe Mbiza admitted that they respect Sundowns.
"It does not mean that we will go into the stadium as sheep going into the lions' den. We will fight hard to ensure that we kick the Brazilians out of the cup," Mbiza said.
