The new public protector says she will leave the dispute over the state capture report prepared by h.
After more than a year of failed mediation talks and horrific violence seemingly encouraged by the Zanu-PF government against many of its own people, it is beyond belief that the South African government and the ANC did not support targeted sanctions against the Zimbabwean government.
The proposed UN sanctions would have had absolutely no adverse effect on the people of Zimbabwe. Indeed, the main sanction was intended to be a worldwide ban on the sale of arms of war to a regime which many believe has declared war on a large section of its people.
Most South Africans were absolutely disgusted and ashamed during April, when our government steadfastly refused to prevent the passage of the armaments shipment through South Africa to Harare. It was a cleric with his lawyer's appeal to a magistrate who, along with the humane action of Satawu and the Durban dock workers, that prevented the deadly cargo from being unloaded off the Chinese ship.
It was ordinary working South Africans and not the government that restored South Africa's pride and honour in the eyes of a very watchful world.
Thankfully, judging by the ever-increasing support that Cosatu is giving to Zimbabweans, it is doubtful that any future arms shipments will go through South Africa to the Mugabe-led government.
