Legend lauds bank for pitching in

Soccer legend Phil "Chippa" Masinga has commended banking giant First National Bank their programme of assisting communities with artificial pitches.

Soccer legend Phil "Chippa" Masinga has commended banking giant First National Bank their programme of assisting communities with artificial pitches.

"Artificial pitches are now used in many parts of the world, it's a good thing that our players are also introduced to it," he said.

Masinga is one of the 2010 World Cup ambassadors who will attend the sod-turning ceremony at the launch of another artificial pitch in Ngangelizwe, Mthatha, today.

Other ambassadors who will be there include Zambian Kalusha Bwalya, and the former Bafana Bafana duo of Doctor Khumalo and Mark Fish.

The ambassadors will also conduct coaching clinics for hundreds of school children in Mthatha and surrounding areas.

Danny Jordaan, the Local Organising Committee's chief executive, will deliver a keynote address during the ceremony.

The bank, an official partner of the World Cup, has decided to set up artificial pitches in five municipalities as part of the 2010 World Cup legacy projects.

The first of five pitches was handed to the community of Pietermaritzburg last month.

Other artificial pitches will be launched in Kimberley, Ekurhuleni and Cape Town in the next few months.
