After a successful launch at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre, Invitations, a performance by Don Laka and friends, will dazzle the audience at Masakeng in Mofolo Central on July 25.
The initiative, started on a high note with musicians such as Ray Phiri, Sipho Mabuse, Judith Sephuma, Kunle, Gloria Bosman, Theo Kgosinkwe, Arno Carstens, Herman Fox, Oupa Makhubela (Poys), Zonke and Palesa, continues.
After an impressive tour in Limpopo recently, Laka and friends will stun Soweto next week.
Laka is a jazz musician, pianist, songwriter and music producer who has made a special name for himself in the music industry.
He is regarded as one of the country's most versatile performers and has become synonymous with the pioneering of ground-breaking collaborations such as Invitations.
Laka says: "I turned 50 this year and it gave me a reason to look back on my career - at what I'd enjoyed most about making music.
"The things that stood out was work I'd done with various artists and instances when I'd worked in an unfamiliar musical genre.
"I thought it would be great to pay tribute to these collaborations and musical adventures by inviting artists who I really admire to join me as I introduced Invitations to South Africa.
"Fortunately everyone's been as enthusiastic as I was."
Laka points out that he is taking the Invitations concept to all the provinces of South Africa.
Tickets are available at Masakeng for R100.
