For Christians an altar is a place of change, where individuals, families and the congregation meet to worship and rededicate themselves and have a covenant with God, Apostle Isaac Sithole, president and founder of the Oasis of Life Family Church, told his congregation yesterday.

Preaching on the theme "Taking Charge of Your Altar", Sithole reminded congregants that every living person had their own altar that they retire to when it's time to reinforce and strengthen spiritual needs to serve God wholeheartedly.

"At the altar Christians must verbalise their needs before God. Even in African tradition, families have their own altars, only accessible to family members," Sithole said.

Reading from Matthew 5 verses 20 to 25, he said praising God was a sacrifice.

Quoting verse 22, Sithole read: "... anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment."

He also warned against some Christians' double standards of worship.

"If you worship God, worship Him alone. Don't prostitute His name," he warned.
