The ING Renault F1 Team will return to the streets of Sandton, Johannesburg, on July 27 and unleash its fifth season of spectacular, city-centre motor racing demonstrations.
Popular ING Renault F1 Team driver Nelson Piquet Jr will be seen in action again this year and he will be piloting the Renault F1 Team R27 vehicle.
He will be joined by Lucas Di Grassi, third driver for the ING Renault F1 Team, and both are expected to reach speeds of up to 270km/h during their on-street performances.
Launched in 2003, the ING Renault F1 Roadshow has, to date, thrilled in excess of 2million people around the world.
This year's event is being brought to South Africa as a result of a strategic partnership between the Gauteng government's department of economic development and the ING Renault F1 Team.
Paul Mashatile, Gauteng MEC for finance and economic affairs, said that the provincial government was optimistic that the partnership would take Gauteng closer to achieving its strategic objective of increasing its share of the tourism market to 55percent of all international arrivals.
"We are confident that it will serve to market Gauteng, its infrastructure, attractions, facilities and logistics and enhance the province's marketability as an investment and tourism destination.
"We believe it will create interest in motor sport within the youth sector, in particular those from previously disadvantaged communities."
Jason Campbell, marketing and partner acquisitions manager, ING Renault F1 Team, said: "We are delighted to be returning to the streets of Sandton."
"Renault's philosophy has always been to broaden the sport's appeal to the widest possible audience by taking fans closer to the heart of the action and also to the people involved.
"With the roadshow programme now well into its fifth season, its goal of taking passionate fans and newcomers to the very core of Formula 1 action remains unchanged.
"The 2008 GPG ING Renault F1 Team Roadshow will serve to showcase what modern Formula 1 is all about and, for many South African spectators, will present the opportunity of a lifetime," Campbell added.
Entrance to the roadshow, that will take place on Sunday, July 27, will be free to the public.
