For the first time all of Limpopo's three National First Division teams will feature in the third edition of the Limpopo Soccer Challenge.
The launch was held yesterday in Polokwane.
The celebrated event will be hosted at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday, July 20.
The format will differ from other provincial competitions in that the three Limpopo teams - Dynamos, Winners Park and defending champions Black Leopards - will fight for a place in the final against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Dynamos will lock horns with Winners at 9am, while the winner will face the recently relegated Leopards at 12pm.
The winner of that encounter will face Sundowns in the final at 3.30pm.
"The event will help us to promote the province as a leading eco-tourism destination, and position it as the ultimate sports destination of choice," Seipati Tlaka, chief operations officer of Limpopo Tourism and Parks, said yesterday.
"We view this challenge as a premier provincial event that will give us the positioning and profiling we deserve as one of the host provinces of the 2010 Soccer World Cup."
The three Limpopo sides complained about lack of support from the public and private sectors, blaming it on the failure of Leopards and Dynamos to retain their Premiership status.
"We appreciate the fact that LTP remembered us during this year's edition. We will bring a strong team to ensure that we reach the finals and ultimately win the trophy," Pat Malabela, Dynamos' managing director, said.
For Winners the tournament will be used to fine-tune the players for next season.
"We will not let this trophy move out of the province. I am appealing to soccer fanatics to come in their numbers to support the provincial teams," Stan Mokgawa, Winners Park's spokesman said.
Leopards' spokesman Tshifhiwa Thidiela conceded that lack of support is affecting them negatively.
"We support LTP's initiative, and we view it in a serious manner as it is the right platform wherein we will be able to market ourselves," Thidiela said.
Safa's provincial president Nakedi Lekota encouraged the teams to revisit the drawing board to negotiate their way back to the Premiership.
