In a bid to surpass their 2004 third place finish in the Kay Motsepe Cup's national championships, Sozama High School have roped in the expertise of four ex-professional players to assist them.

Linda Buthelezi, Martin Zwane, Frank Makua and Humphrey Mlwane are in camp with the Middelburg school in preparation for the yearly school tournament.

"I'm adamant that the boys will go all the way to the final this year," said former hard-tackling Bafana Bafana midfielder Buthelezi, popularly known as Mercedes Benz.

"We have brought hope and self esteem to the boys. They now believe in themselves.

"We are also helping their coach [Page Majola] with training techniques and coaching knowledge," he said.

The finals of this celebrated event will be held in Mamelodi from Wednesday to Saturday, July 9 to 12.

Sozama qualified for the finals after beating their Mpumalanga opponents to clinch the provincial championship at Mhluzi Stadium in Middleburg earlier in June.

They beat Madiza 4-2 in the semifinal and went on to outclass Gedlembane 1-0 in the final.

Other provincial winners who qualified are Meadowlands High of Gauteng, Silindokuhle of KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape's Ntabakulu, Mpumalanga's Sozama, Cloetesville of Western Cape, SA van Wyk of Northern Cape, Michael Modisakeng of North West, Harmony of Free State and Tshikanoshi from Limpopo.
