About 300 Cosatu members picketed the Beit Bridge border post near Musina this weekend to demonstrate dissatisfaction with how Zimbabwe conducted its run-off presidential election.

Though MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai's party won the parliamentary poll and he beat Robert Mugabe in the original vote, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission ruled he had not garnered more than 50percent of the vote and had to face Mugabe in a run-off.

Tsvangirai pulled out after Zanu-PF and Mugabe declared they would never hand over power to Tsvangirai and his supporters, and a campaign of violence was launched against the opposition MDC.

Official observers slammed the election because of the violence.

On Saturday Cosatu called Mugabe's nominal victory "illegitimate".

Cosatu's provincial secretary Jan Tsiane said the proposed government of national unity would not work because participants were under threat.
