Stars for SABC road show

The SABC Greens Eastern Cape Road Show 2008 is set to take the freezing province by storm by means of a celebrity show that will run from today until Saturday.

The road show is part of the SABC's commitment to its vision of ensuring that it continues to play a critical role in maximising transformation.

The public broadcaster is now heading for Eastern Cape to fulfil its mandate and vision of broadcasting for total citizen empowerment.

The aim is to make a difference in people's lives by contributing much-needed resources in five areas that have been identified - Bedford, Alice, Somerset East, Pearston and Jansenville - and to support sustainable projects,

The star-studded celebrity show boasts some of the SABC's most loved celebrities and celebrated musicians.

The celebrity show line-up includes Jika Majika. Thembi Seete is the vibrant host. There is also Umhlobo Wenene, driven by Slyso, Muvhango's charismatic Rapulana Seiphemo and heart-throb Mutodi Nesheshe, Selimathunzi's Kaos, Countdown to 2010's Fezile Makhaya, 7de Laan's Melanie du Bois, SABC3 continuity presenter Liezel van der Westhuizen and Edgars Music Series' Precious Kofi.

Visits to hospitals, schools for the disabled, children's homes, schools, old age homes and recreational centres have been planned.

SABC1 programmes such as Ses'khona, Selimathunzi and Music Lounge will film inserts for later broadcast.

Dates for the road show:

Today: Jansenville - Maurituis sportsfield

Tomorrow: Pearston - Pearston Primary School

Tomorrow: Somerset East - various institutions

Tomorrow: Bedford - Templeton High School

Thursday: Alice - Longmarket Street sportsfield

Friday: Grahamstown Station - SABC Umhlobo Wenene and Tru Fm Concert
