Sin of stupidity

Taunting or picking on someone because they have Aids is not only irresponsible but also inhuman.

Taunting or picking on someone because they have Aids is not only irresponsible but also inhuman.

We are appalled at claims that a teacher in KaNyamazane, Mpumalanga, belittled an HIV-positive Grade 11 pupil in front of other pupils.

Worse still, the attack appears unprovoked and aimed at stigmatising the girl. We shudder to think what drove the teacher to make such a reckless statement.

Fortunately the matter has reached the education department. We hope appropriate action will be taken once the claims have been investigated and proved to be true.

We don't need such imprudent teachers who ignorantly roll back the gains achieved in de-stigmatising Aids as an ailment of disgrace.
