Jabavu Tavern in Soweto made history at the weekend by becoming the inaugural champions of the Keep-Fit Soccer League's Carlsberg Cup.
They achieved the feat after a 4-1 hammering of Mamotlatsi Tavern of Meadowlands in an exciting final at The Glen sports ground on Saturday.
Jabavu Tavern were presented with the R3 000 first prize, a trophy, 20 gold medals and a new kit. Mamotlatsi received R2000, 20 silver medals and a new kit.
Mapau Winter XI from Phiri, also in Soweto, finished third after beating Motswala Masters of Meadowlands 4-1 on the same day.
Jeff Tsatsi, a league spokesman, said: "The inaugural tournament exceeded our expectations. We are grateful to everybody who contributed to the success of this tournament.
"The Keep-Fit Soccer League is a great platform for community members to stay in good shape; we are also using it to promote good health."
