McCarthy still looking

Kaizer Chiefs defender Fabian McCarthy does not know which club he will play for next season. His contract with the Soweto giants expires on Monday.

"I have not spoken to anyone about renewing my contract. It's very worrying but I have faith that it will be sorted out soon," he said.

"Obviously I want to stay with Chiefs. I've been there for five years and I feel I could still serve them for another two or three seasons," the 31-year-old said.

McCarthy left Mamelodi Sundowns back in 2003 and recent newspaper reports suggested that the Vryburg-born defender would return to Chloorkop.

"I have not spoken to anyone about joining Sundowns. I don't know where that story comes from but it's not true. My friends and family have called me about this supposed move and I've had to explain that I don't know anything about going back there."

McCarthy, who was watching FC AK and Maritzburg United play in a Premier Soccer League (PSL) promotion play-off first leg game in Eldorado Park on Wednesday, joked that maybe he should join the team that wins promotion to the elite league.

"I think both sides could do with my expertise in defence," he quipped after the sides drew 1-1. - Sapa
