Aspiring athletes from Moletjie in Limpopo and surrounding areas will have an opportunity to run alongside former professional athletes during the Mampodi Says Community Challenge 15km race.

The race will start at 9am from GaManamela and end at Moletjie Moshate on Saturday.

Some of the former athletes who will be there are the Tsebe brothers, David and Rammy, Lawrence Peu and Johannes Maremane and the fast Phasha Magagane, a student at the University of Limpopo.

Hendrick Ramaala promised to bring athletes from his club.

The race that is in its second year is organised by former South African marathon champion Daniel "Mampodi" Radebe.

Radebe is in partnership with the Transnet Foundation, backed by the department of sports and recreation, Limpopo's department of sports, arts and culture, Puma and Energizer.

He is involved in athletics development in the country and will stage similar events in Setlagola, North West in September, and Mohlakeng, West Rand in October.

"My main aim is to unearth the hidden and neglected talent from the deep rural areas. The other plan is produce athletes who will be ready for the 2012 Olympics," said Radebe.
