Nominations are invited for the 2008 Murray & Roberts Jack Cheetham Memorial Award.

This sporting accolade - named after Jack Cheetham, the former director of M&R and captain of the SA cricket team in the 1950s - supports sustainable development in sport.

It is a nation-building project of M&R, the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) and Sowetan, who have made the award part of the Aggrey Klaaste Nation Building Foundation.

Reigning Jack Cheetham Memorial Award champions, Kwanobuhle Hockey Development Programme in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, are supervised by Gary Dolley.

They received the award, a floating trophy and R500000 over five years. The programme caters for about 750 children.

They get professional coaching from Jeremy Mambalu and participate in regional leagues.

Nominations for the 2008 Jack Cheetham Memorial Award must include:

l A description of the project, and how it contributes to community upliftment;

l The role of sport in the project, including specific examples of excellence in sport;

l The inspirational role of leadership in the project, including specific examples of leadership;

l Future plans and goals which will contribute to the sustainability of the project.

Nominations should be sent to M&R Jack Cheetham Memorial Award, PO Box 1355, Houghton, 2041; or by fax to: 011-483-9061.
