AmaTuks tourney kicks off

The maiden Jet AmaTuks Schools Soccer tournament gets under way at the Tuks High Performance Centre in Pretoria today.

Six high schools from throughout the country will test their character in a competitive tournament that will end on Friday.

Participating schools are Makgoka and SJ van der Merwe (Limpopo), Reamohetse and Kutloanong (Free State), Springs (Gauteng), Vaal Reefs Technical (North West), Cloeteville (Western Cape) and Brookdale (KwaZulu-Natal).

The event is hosted by University of Pretoria FC who are campaigning in the National First Division inland stream.

Andreas Koshiaris, tournament coordinator, said the tournament aimed to secure youngsters for Tuks.

"We are looking for future stars that will be drafted into our development structure next season," said Koshiaris.

All today's matches will be played at 3pm and the semifinals and final will take place on Friday from 10am. The winners will receive R15 000 while the runners-up will get R10 000.

Today's fixtures: Kutloanong v SJ van der Merwe; Vaal reefs Technical v Brookdale; Reamohetse v Makgoka; Springs v Cloeteville.
