A Roodepoort man was arrested after he tried to steal part of a speed camera.
The 32-year-old man clocked 135kmh in his Renault Clio on the N1 near Grasmere on Sunday.
Johannesburg Metro police spokesman Wayne Minnaar said: "The man saw the camera flash go off and made a U-turn across the highway and headed back to the camera.
"He stole the flasher unit - the battery unit and battery cable - placed about 72metres from the speed camera."
The man was charged with theft and malicious damage to property.
