Distinguished runner Hendrick Ramaala will lead a star-studded Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) team in the Nedbank South African Half-Marathon Championships in Motherwell on July 5.

The event will start and finish at the NU2 Stadium, from 7am and it is expected to attract a horde of top athletes from across the country.

Announcing the team for the championships at their offices in Germiston this week, CGA's president Snowy Matthews, said she has no doubt that the selected athletes will make the province proud in Motherwell.

"We are going out there to compete for medals and I know what our athletes are capable of. We are ready and can't wait for July 5," Matthews said.

Other star performers in the CGA team include Johannes Kekana, Simon Mpholo, Jeffrey Gwebu, Themba Miya, Coolboy Ngamole, Poppy Mlambo, Dimakatso Menong, Eunice Nhlapo and Cornelle Joubert.

While Ramaala is favourite to pocket the R25000 first prize on the day, it won't be easy.

His credentials will be tested by the likes of Enos Matalane, George Mofokeng and George Ntshiliza.
